Sportstar Shefflin visits Davis
On Wednesday October 14th, Kilkenny’s hurling legend and sportstar, Henry Shefflin, accompanied by Kerry Senior footballer, Cillian Young, and Cork dual star Aidan Walsh, paid Davis College students and staff a visit as part of the school’s ongoing link with Bank of Ireland. Manager, Linda Ryan, and school liaison officer Jennifer Browne, both from the Mallow branch, were also in attendance. Davis has maintained and progressed the link with bank of Ireland over the years, through specifically tailored school programmes such as junior achievement, bond trader and junk couture. Shefflin and company were given a whistle-stop tour of the state of the art campus before the keynote speaker, Mr Shefflin took to the stage, to deliver what was indeed a most motivational address. Shefflin’s words evidently resonated with all in attendance, a fact evidenced by the questions and answers session which followed. Ciaran Teape, a transition year student who boasts an impressive track record in terms of public speaking and debating, winning the prestigious title of best advocate at a recent Model United Nations Conference in Porto, wowed invited guests when asked to formally conclude proceedings. Before snaps and autographs were taken and received, Shefflin joked that the students of Davis should have delivered the address, such was their level of accomplishment in terms of co-curricular and academic achievement.
